Mr. Lars Arnberg
Lars is a Patient Representative for the ENDEAVOR project, living in Stockholm, Sweden. He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in July 2016 and has been actively involved in patient-research organizations since 2017.
Mr. Peter Browne
Peter is a Patient Representative for the ENDEAVOR project, living in Dublin, Ireland. He’s had a long cancer journey, starting with acid reflux and eventually undergoing an esophagectomy. He has been cancer free for 10 years now and actively participates in multiple patient organizations.
Mr. Johnny King
Johnny is a Patient Representative for the ENDEAVOR project, living in Dublin, Ireland. After his identical twin brother was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, he also went for a check-up and found out he had a hiatus hernia, which later developed to Barrett’s Esophagus. He’s had Barrett’s for 30 years now and actively participates in multiple patient organizations.
“Life after esophagus operation is different, you become a different person. There are deep changes in your life. You talk about it with friends and family, but they might get tired of you. Then it’s nice that there are people that are interested in what you have to say and take you seriously. Also, research is fun!”
“It’s always of benefit to hear another side of the story; the researchers might hear things from us patients that they don’t know yet. Also there’s a social thing about it [being in a PPI panel]. I’ve met some very interesting people online and we’ve met a couple of times in person. So, that does me good and the medical professionals as well.”
“What input we can give on the research side, I don’t know [laughs]. But we can certainly make people aware that the research is going on how far the research has advanced … I’ve met many wonderful people over the last 30 years, some people I’m now proud to call friends.”
